In today’s This Week in the Market, a goods inspection at the Market tomorrow, drug and alcohol support services available and trading hours for the Queen’s Birthday public holiday announced.

Goods inspection at the Market

Image result for weighing scale imageAustralian Government agency Trade Measurement will be visiting the Market tomorrow morning to ensure traders are delivering correct measurements in their transactions.

The inspections will include recording trader’s business details, inspecting and testing any weighing instruments at their workplace and weighing any pre-packaged articles which have a weight statement on them to ensure they are correct. Inspectors will also be looking at their trading practices – i.e. how goods are being sold.

Trade Measurement will begin inspections from 5am tomorrow.

Drug and alcohol support services

Are you or is someone you know suffering from drug or alcohol addiction? It may be a family member, friend or even a work colleague.

Below are a few local support services which can help point you in the right direction to receive the help needed.

As per the OH&S rules for the Market, Market users must not enter, remain within or carry out activities within the Melbourne Market if they are affected by the consumption or use of alcohol or other drugs (whether prescription drugs or otherwise) to such a degree as to put at risk the health or safety of themselves or any other person.

Queen’s Birthday public holiday trading hours

Please note the Market will be closed on Monday 12 June for the Queen’s Birthday public holiday and the following trading hours will apply:

Fruit and Vegetable Market:

  • Monday 12 June: Market closed
  • Tuesday 13 June: 3.30am to 7.30am (one hour earlier than usual)

Warehouse access remains unchanged. Access for warehouse tenants is 24 hours 7 days a week.

Flower Market:

  • Monday 12 June: Market closed

If your parking permit only allows access on a day where a public holiday falls and you would like to come to the Market on an alternative adjacent day, you will not be charged for parking and can enter the Market. However, please note your regular bay may not be available. Please seek instruction from a Market Relations Officer on arrival.

Webinar on fruit fly management

Image result for fruit flyFruit flies are one of the most serious pests in horticulture.

A series of five videos and an accompanying handbook have been produced to help combat the pests, titled Fruit fly management for vegetable growers.

The resources outline the strategies available to growers to manage fruit fly in vegetable crops, including the fruit fly lifecycle, monitoring, use of protein baiting, male annihilation techniques and netting.

A webinar this Friday will provide an interactive overview of these resources, and the chance to interact with lead researcher Dr Jenny Ekman from AHR.

Forklift refresher training course dates

Forklift refresher training provided on site at the Melbourne Market will assist safety conscious organisations to keep their workers’ skills up to date and current.

The training will provide workers with information about current WorkSafe regulations and/or legislation and standard operating procedures as well as site safety and safe driving principles.

Training will be delivered at the Melbourne Market in 3 hour blocks over a 2-day period for a total of 6 hours.

Training Dates:

17 May, 2017
20 and 21 June, 2017

Time: 8.00am to 11.00am
Cost: $324.50 (includes GST)

At the end of the course participants will receive a certificate of participation.
