Mother’s Day Promotions

To celebrate mums this Mother’s Day, the MMA and Flowers Victoria are working with Nova FM to promote the purchase of fresh flowers for mum.

From early May, a radio ad encouraging the public to appreciate their mums by sending fresh flowers will be aired.  This cheeky, fun commercial is designed to keep flowers top of mind when thinking about mum.  You can check out the radio ad by clicking here.

In the week preceding, radio personalities will also be discussing Mother’s Day on-air and promoting the purchase of fresh flowers from local florists. As part of this promotion, the radio stations will be running competitions with complimentary flower giveaways. We need your help to make the giveaways a success, and we will be in the Market collecting flower donations in the week before Mother’s Day; your assistance is much appreciated.

We have listened to your feedback from past campaigns, so this year we will not be providing posters and gift cards, and instead, campaign funds are being channelled into mainstream media for more extensive coverage.

Children in the Market

People often say working at the Melbourne Market is like being part of one big family. It certainly felt like that during the school holidays when we held our regular “Children in the Market” days.
All children in attendance received some delicious fruit for a healthy snack as well as a MarketFresh School colouring and activity book.
Thanks to everyone for making sure all our visiting children were kept safe during their time at the Market.

New Agriculture Minister visits the Market

Last month the Melbourne Market welcomed the new Minister for Agriculture, The Hon. Jaclyn Symes to the Market.
The Minister toured the facilities and spoke to traders and Market users about their thoughts and concerns regarding the industry. She later came back to the administration office to discuss future Market projects and developments with the MMA Board and Management.
We look forward to welcoming her back again soon.

Chrysanthemum – the flower of Mother’s Day in Australia

Mother’s Day in Australia occurs in the middle of Autumn at the time of year when Chrysanthemum is most abundant.
While it is not known for sure how Chrysanthemum came to be known as the Mother’s Day flower of Australia, many believe that it was due to the namesake “mum”.
Check out these fantastic Chrysanthemum arrangements on Flower Factor’s YouTube channel.
