Greengrocery training program update

Some of Melbourne’s best greengrocers have been working with the MMA and Melbourne Polytechnic to advise on the subjects and content required for a Certification 2 and 3 in Greengrocery.

This will ensure there’s a pool of skilled and knowledgeable individuals available and capable of providing excellent customer service and great produce, as well as operating modern stores.

The MMA announced last year it was working with Melbourne Polytechnic to establish a Greengrocery training program to address a lack of formal training and qualifications in the industry, which has been a longstanding issue.

On behalf of the industry, we would like to thank the following greengrocers for being generous with their time and knowledge in creating this course:

  • Brad Vincent – Marketplace (A&S Wholesale)
  • Leon Mugavin – The Leaf
  • Nic Gangemi – Gangemi Fruit Market
  • Tony Mecca – Mecca Brothers

Enrolments for the Certification 2 and 3 in greengrocery will be accepted later this year.

Search and locate businesses in the Market

Do you know the Melbourne Market Navigator app includes an up-to-date business directory? This means you can search and locate businesses in the Market quickly and easily.

Aside from the business directory, the app includes location maps and traffic updates, so you’re always in the loop with what’s happening on the roads.

The Melbourne Market Navigator app is free to download – click here to find out more.

Store PIR door maintenance

You may have noticed we’ve been undertaking maintenance on sliding PIR doors and roller doors on the stores in the Buyers’ Walk over the past week.

This is part of the annual planned maintenance programme and ensures that the doors continue to operate properly.

These works will continue for the next three weeks and business principals have been notified when their scheduled maintenance is taking place.

If you’re a storeholder and you haven’t received your notification yet about this maintenance, please contact the Market’s Facilities Supervisor, Matthew Vasilevski on 0428 244 880.
