Pooling equipment

Pooling Equipment

As part of the Market Operating Rules, all fruit and vegetable related businesses need a ‘pooling equipment account’. Pooling equipment accounts provide a more efficient and cost-effective system for everyone.

Market businesses that require a pooling equipment account include:

  • Fruit and Vegetable stand holder
  • Fruit and Vegetable store holder
  • Fruit and Vegetable buyer
  • Warehouse tenants
  • Plastics and packaging commercial businesses
  • Market hire
  • Waste services
  • Loading and unloading businesses
  • Transport businesses
  • Fumigation services
  • Forklift repair
  • Refrigeration contractors

All Market businesses are required to register their pooling equipment account. If you do not have an active pooling equipment account and are found to be using pooling equipment in the Market, you risk all access cards associated with your business being cancelled.

Once you’ve set up your pooling equipment account, you will need to register it with the MMA. You can do this by completing the Market Pooling Equipment (pallets) form.

If you require assistance with applying for or activating your pooling equipment account, please contact Customer Service between 4.00 am and 11.00 am Monday to Friday on 03 9258 6123.

About pooling equipment

Hiring pooling equipment is significantly cheaper than buying your own pallets and crates. Pooling equipment accounts provide a more efficient and cost effective system for everyone. All fruit and vegetable related businesses will need a ‘pooling equipment account’.

Opening an account is free, plus there are other initiatives available to minimise the cost for those who do the right thing and return pallets within five days.

To organise an account speak to a CHEP, LOSCAM or any other pooling equipment company representative and tell them you are from the Melbourne Market.
