The Melbourne Market Authority is established under the Melbourne Market Authority Act 1977 and reports to the Minister for Major Projects, the Hon. David Hodgett, MP.
There are five members of the Authority, each appointed by the Minister for Major Projects under the provisions of the Melbourne Market Authority Act 1977.
Stephen McArthur was appointed MMA Chairman to the Board on 18 January 2014, having been a member of the Board from 14 June 2011. His appointment as Chairman is for a period of 3 years.
Stephen is a Director of Yarra Valley Water and has a background in agriculture and construction. Steve was the Member for Monbulk 1992-2002, the Shadow Minister for Agriculture 2000-2002 as well as Shadow Minister for Water Resources 1999-2002.
Gisela was appointed to the Board on 14 June 2011 for a period of 3 years.
Gisela has 40 years’ experience in the chicken meat industry, including farming, hatching ,feed production. Processing, further processing and sales. CEO for last 17 of own family company with $80 million in sales, previously GM Inghams Vic/Tas for 8 years. Councillor /Shire President Lilydale Council (major fruit growing area) for 8 years. VIFTB (Victorian Food Industry Training board) member for 16 years.
Andrew was appointed to the Board in June 2012 for a period of 2 years.
Andrew is a Chartered Accountant who for 30 years has specialized in the business recovery and advisory industry. He was a founding Partner in a firm that is now one of the largest Advisory firms in Australia. Andrew is experienced at improving business performance.
Russell was appointed to the Board on 18 January 2014 for a period of 3 years.
Russell Cooper was Managing Director of Goulburn Murray Water, supplying irrigation water to fruit and vegetable growers in Northern Victoria. He was Managing Director of Sita, a waste management company and Managing Director of South East Water in Melbourne. Russell has been a Non-Executive Director of Murrumbidgee Irrigation, the CRC for Irrigation Futures, Irrigation Australia and various Industry associations. He is currently a Board member of Western Water.
Bill was appointed to the Board on 18 January 2014 for a period of 3 years.
Bill has recently been a Director of The Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology. He is a consultant in the agri-food industry, having been involved in the management of a number of large scale, major brand food companies, handling fruit, vegetables and milk for the Australian and international market.
He has considerable experience in risk management, logistics, workplace and food safety as well as major projects including relocation, new technologies, in a culturally diverse environment.
